The Granchain Exhibit is a journey through a unique part of world history, the adventure and peril of the French migratory fishery on Newfoundland’s “Petit Nord.” It showcases Guillaume-Jacques Constant de Liberge de Granchain, an 18th century naval officer, hydrographer, ally in the American Revolution, and protector of the French Shore. Containing documentation, period artifacts, and information on this celebrated world figure the exhibition outlines his political and commercial involvement with the French Shore and St. Lunaire Bay. It also presents the French history of the area from the early 1500s to the signing of the “Entente Cordiale” in 1904.
